Ikiya Collective Statement on the Supreme Court Overturning Roe V. Wade

The Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. in 1973. This ruling also gives Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt a chance to undermine tribal sovereignty and fight 2020 Supreme Court ruling, McGirt v. Oklahoma which holds crimes committed on tribal lands cannot be prosecuted by state or local law enforcement, only in tribal courts or federal courts, if a Native American is involved.

Ikiya Collective, a collective of frontline Indigenous women, two-spirits and queer organizers in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico who have long organized for reproductive justice issued the following statement:

For our ancestors, for our lands, for our future generations, we will stand for the land and fight for reproductive justice that grants us the bodily sovereignty we have been denied for too long and the United States continues to strip away.
We know states like Oklahoma will use this ruling to attack Indigenous sovereignty.

Our right to determine what is right for our bodies and lives is sacred and will be defended.
